On Saturday 14th October Chichester Triathlon Club ran their first Swim Bike Run Mini event.
On the day of the event it was a chilly morning and there were some very nervous adults and children arriving at Westgate leisure centre to register for the event.
Once registration opened the sun was shining and hoodies were discarded for swimsuits and shorts.
The event started with 15 adults completing the longer course.
For most this was their first triathlon and many nerves were overcome to get through the swim before heading out onto the bike and run course.
The nervous faces turned to smiles and laughter as they crossed the finish line and were handed their well deserved medals by some of club junior and youth triathletes.
Then it was time for the family event.
46 adults and 47 children, some as young as six, swam, cycled and ran the course
There were small children’s bikes with stabilisers and ribbons, mountain bikes, shoppers and road bikes all competing together.
Families crossed the finish line holding hands, receiving their medals and sharing hugs!
All can now say they have completed a triathlon.
The marshals were awesome cheering, supporting and helping everyone get through the course and ensuring all had an afternoon to remember.
Thank you to all those who helped set up, marshal and support the event . We couldn’t run the event without you giving up your time to help.
Thank you to Coops Coffee and Pegasus Pizza for supporting our event.
This is the biggest Swim Bike Run Mini in the UK so far and British Triathlon now wish to use the event as a case study to encourage other clubs to organise similar events.
Thank you so much for supporting our event and helping to raise vital funds for Chichester Food Bank/The Trussell Trust.
We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did …. and they did 🙂
